Before and after polish.

See the ripples in the photo, in the purple section nearest the screw? Those are from 2500 grit sandpaper and Meguiar’s.

Compare to the video, which is after 5000 grit and a different kind of Meguiar’s.

It’s a whole nother somethin.

There’s slop at the bottom of the butt. It’s unfinished — but finishing it is the funnest and jazziest, easiest part of the whole build. I just go outside to the driveway and spin the stick like I’m a free man living with considerably less technology, and brains, and need to start a fire.

Kidding, accourse. I tape the butt, slide it in a collet, place in the chuck, and shave a new face on the butt. Then CA glue to finish. Takes 10 minutes of work stretched over three hours. Like I said, jazzy fun.

Regardless, when I finish the bottom, that includes the corner and last inch of the stick. I prefer it this way, as the bottom of the butt, where I’m working, is held more securely in the chuck this way than would otherwise be, given the exigencies of my setup.
