This video shows Stick 24, Miss Sarah Phim, a stick made of spalted, (rotten) beech. The grain patterns are from the natural figuring in the wood as well as lines left by various strains of fungus, as they consumed the nutrients within.
“Stabilization” uses resin to replace what decay removed from the wood, leaving it strong, durable, easy to machine. It’s also less prone to warping, which makes it excellent for cue building.
