I build live edge, spalted/stabilized, and burl cues from the trees around me in western PA.

Cue building, to me, is about finding God in the tiniest squiggles of his creation. The art is about listening to him as he works on me while I work on the cue. Trusting him to reveal something special with the last turn on the Taper Shaper.

Looking at wood grain is like looking at our own histories. We see the fat good years, but we also see where we were attacked, where we rallied strength from our roots and grew to overcome.

The struggles that are big enough to take us down leave the biggest patterns. We see where all the beatings we took made us stronger, and like black cherry burl, something to behold.

I am grateful for my struggles when I recognize I am burl.

I hope when I meet my Creator, he sees in my grain the same beauty I see in his black cherry and walnut.

I can tell you how mine shoot. I have played for over 50 years and played serious league play for 25. Have owned a lot of cues, a lot of really cheap ones and some not so cheap. I own two of Clayton's cues and both shoot very well, but, the latest one, ''Bob'', with the carbon shaft is magical, it has raised my shooting to a level that I have not shot in ten years.
