Butt & Joint Protector: $825

There is so much funky behavior going on in this stick I don’t know what to say. I used blue dye on one end of the forearm and one end of the butt sleeve. I used red on the other. No idea where the other colors came from. Green doesn’t come out of blue and red, normally. But there are so many different hues it’s like someone brought their own colors to the party and dumped it in the punchbowl.

Regardless, American Hornbeam is also known as Ironwood in west PA. The trees are scrubby and twisted, hard to get nice stuff to work with. This is the first butt I’ve done that is all Ironwood on the outside. Expect a very firm hit. This is the kind of butt that seems to have its own gravity. Very solid. Low key and stable, for a screamer.

Hello, I’m Clayton Lindemuth, the grit lit author responsible for the Baer Creighton series and more. I started building cues as a way to keep the creative engines going while waiting on the muse to strike, and now I spend almost all my time in the shop. I focus on spalted, live edge, and burl cues that I build from hardwoods I harvest, process, and stabilize myself, drawn from the woods around me in Hormtown, Pa.

I use cue building processes learned from masters of the industry. Video courses, books, mentors, and forever testing new methods. Learn about my building process from my YouTube channel and be sure to subscribe.

I’m Clayton Lindemuth, gritlit author and cue builder. My Character Cues are crafted from spalted Pennsylvania hardwoods, live edge, and burl from the woods around me. I process and stabilize, slow dry, and build cues the old school way. Not in a hurry. Ain’t setting records. Work day and night and build less than 50 a year.

Cuemaking is my divine charge and my goal is always to showcase God’s creativity and way. I’m proud of these sticks not because of my part, but because their beauty is palpable — it baffles me.
