  • Stick 172 Shutupinator

    Stick 172 Shutupinator

    Butt & Joint Protector $875

    Speak softly and carry a… Shutupinator… 😉

6 monthly payments. (See below.) No interest.

Pair with a purpleheart shaft for the ultimate break monster. Add a matching jump handle to go with your purple heart shaft. Then add a carbon fiber shaft or BurcHowdy for the ultimate in balanced control and low deflection. Shutupinator. You won’t have to say it twice.

Purpleheart is dense, with a Janka score of 2,520 lbs.

Ebony is more dense, with a Janka of 3080.

What is Janka? From Wood Database:

“The actual number listed in the wood profile is the amount of pounds-force (lbf) or newtons (N) required to imbed a .444″ (11.28 mm) diameter steel ball into the wood to half the ball’s diameter. This number is given for wood that has been dried to a 12% moisture content.”

Hard maple, prized among many cue builders, has a Janka of only 1,450.

What’s it mean, really? First, the wood is harder to dent. Second, it’s heavy. Third, the hit is as close to zero vibration as you’re going to get. Just a solid connection with no backsass. When you say move, the cue ball moves. When you say dance, she dances.

Woods Used: Purple heart, Ebony, Spalted/Stabilized Maple (rings), copper rings.

    Butt Length: 30″

Core: Wavy Purple tenoned on the ends for forearm and butt sleeve.

    Collars: Phenolic

Probable full cue natural weight: 20-22 oz.

    Pin: 3/8-10; Radial

    Glue Date: 12/21/25

    Earliest Finish Date: 6/26

  • Stick 134: Puzzling

    Stick 134: Puzzling

    Butt & Joint Protector: $975

Puzzling has no signature or number on the body of the butt. I’ve been asked, so I know some folks prefer no sigs. The reason this doesn’t have one is I used gold ink and it vanished under the finish. Maybe it’s there under the right light. I can’t find it.

Both black cherry red rot and walnut, along with black cherry (handle) and maple (red, with all the black squiggles). Comes with black cherry burl joint protector.

I need to get lunch. Then I’ll come back and write up the description. Lots to enjoy on this one!

  • Stick 167: ACHTUNG!!!!!

    Stick 167: ACHTUNG!!!!!

    Butt & Joint Protector: $825

Spalted/stabilized maple on a purple heart core.

A very nuanced screamer. ACHTUNG!!!!! has a forearm and butt sleeve that had each end soaked in purple stabilizer and then the whole piece was submerged in black stabilizer, then after saturated under vacuum, cooked until solid.

The purple is obvious in the forearm, less so in the sleeve. I went with red for the handle because it is a component color of purple and the black has traces of red in it, as I wanted it to harmonize with deep space/galaxy colors for another build, and this butt benefitted.

Built on a purple heart core, expect a very solid feel in the hand and a steady, firm shooter. Full stick weight likely to be 19-21 oz, natural. Add a purple heart shaft for a break butt that leaves no one in doubt as to who owns the table. Or pair with a BurcHowdy or carbon fiber shaft for a low deflection statement shooter.

One other option: buy a glass cabinet and just look at her all day. 😉

What’s special here? The top of the butt was dipped in yellow, the bottom in black. The forearm (top) and butt sleeve (bottom) were dipped in green on the ends closest the handle section. Then the forearm and butt sleeve were submerged in burnt orange. (see first video) Four colors in the resin and a fifth in the purple rings.

Also note the grain is aligned through the beech and maple ring sections. The handle is heavily spalted tiger maple with a single shade of green in the resin. All the color dynamics in the handle are from the coloring left by the wood or most often, the fungus that ate it!

For a closeup on the grain and a rotational look, see the second video below.

Collars can be swapped out with black, white, or even shades of brown. Butt currently has a darker brown on the bottom. Got my collars mixed half and half with another set and didn’t notice until the finish was on them, as they look the same before.

Full Purple Heart core; beech forearm and butt sleeve, handle is oak. In fact looking close at the handle, I’m not sure if that’s a winged angel or a woman with veins popping in her eyes.

Up to you if you finish the name of the stick with “Bout a sharp dressed man,” or just leave it as is, a full and complete statement. For indeed, Every Girl’s Crazy.

But to be clear I suppose every man is too. Doesn’t change anything.

The pics are of the butt right after its first turn on the taper shaper. I applied a coat of CA to show the final colors. Patterns will change as the diameter reduces over the next 6 months.

With a full purple heart core, expect a firm hit and a very balanced, solid feel to the butt. Pair with a purple heart, Osage orange, or hickory shaft for a break monster. Or add a carbon fiber or BurcHowdy shaft for your best low deflection everyday statement shooter.
