    6 monthly payments. No interest.

Woods Used: spalted maple (from Alpaca Luke’s) and/or spalted tiger maple, black cherry burl (handle), soft curly maple inlays.

    Cue Build:

    • Dark blue on the ends of the forearm and butt sleeve, purple between; choicest wood from the cook, and I’ll be using the best stuff I have for the entire cook. We’ll have some extraordinary wood to work with. The maple and tiger maple is heavily lined, some quite curly, and has areas of visible contrast in color. The handle will be dark or electric blue black cherry burl.
    • The forearm has 4 floating points made of bright silver super curly maple
    • 8-diamond rings of the same curly maple are on either side of the black cherry burl handle
    • The 8-diamond rings have window rings (alternating blue and purple) with thick nickel silver rings on either side of them.
    • The black cherry burl handle will be dyed blue but will have a reddish hue, and the grain will be super animated and swirling burl, making the handle look like a wooden gemstone.
    • The butt sleeve will feature an inlaid image honoring RH’s son.
    • The effect will be a darkish cue with swirling blue and purple, deep black lines and gentle shading changes within each section, with highly contrasting brightness given by the floating points, diamond inlays, and nickel silver rings.
    • We’ll test collar colors to see what works best, selecting from white (Tomahawk or Juma), black phenolic, or 3 shades of brown phenolic.
    • Ferrule of violet Juma Gemstone.
    • Shaft of birch (a little more attitude than maple; best English of my 10 species) with matching ringwork and colors as found on the butt.
    • The cue’s 6″ extension will be made of the same wood as the butt sleeve, again with matching ringwork.

What I love about the butt:

    • The red pops.
    • The collars are red/brown phenolic, the first I’ve used the color. LOVE IT!
    • The mothy oak that fell over in my sister’s yard last year, that she gave to my dad for firewood, has been a terrific steal. He set a couple pieces aside so I could see it and I confiscated every piece that had enough of the moth-eaten wood to be useful. There isn’t very much of it left, so every cue that gets it is precious.
    • I love that gritty look. Which leads to the name. What’s more John Wayne than mothy oak, walnut, and ant-eaten curly maple? Answer: Shit nuthin.

Woods Used: Spalted mothy oak, walnut, maple (red rings)

Stick 117: I’d Like to Meet a Quark

Auction is for BUTT, Osage Orange BREAK SHAFT, and 2 joint protectors.

I have chosen the father in the text below as the beneficiary of the auction. He loves his son. He will direct the proceeds to their best use.

A couple’s son from church here in Dubois was in a horrific motorcycle accident in Florida in April. A car T-boned him, never seeing him.

The driver did not have a license and no car insurance. Their son has no medical insurance since he had just started a new job.

He suffered a broken jaw and multiple other broken bones. The surgeon never expected him to survive.

At their first sit down meeting, the doctor just stared at their son, confessing that he never expected to have this conversation with him. His jaw was wired shut and 6 weeks before they expected to take the wires out he was already healed. Two of the surgeons zeroed out his bills, Since he was in intensive care, the bill could still be astronomical.

The father is a self-employed contractor and has taken off work to go down and be with his son through this ordeal.

Woods Used: Beech (yellow); Black Cherry

    • Butt: 14.9 oz

    This cue is customizable.

Swap the butt sleeve, handle, forearm, rings, core wood, collar color, to arrive at the build you want. Burl, live edge, or inlays increase the cost.
