I had a vision of a different way to do my epic stick-build video (that I’m planning).

My plan was to learn how to build (with high-quality craftsmanship) artistically unique spalted/stabilized wood pool cues, then once I had the process and the shop capable of doing the work at the level I wanted, create a documentary-style video capturing the entire build of a stunningly gorgeous stick.

That would sell a lot of books!

I mean, at that point, I’d figure out what to do with the video to get it in front of the eyeballs of the sort of people who find artsy pool cues as irresistible as crack.

I started taking video of a stick called Pale Horse a few days ago and it’s going to be a stunner. Then I built the next four sticks and managed to get some video of that — good thing because each of the last five sticks has raised the bar, and each is easily as charming as Pale Horse. I find myself studying the grain like an art student might sit at a museum and study a Picasso.

I’m not taking credit for the grain. That’s what’s so cool about each pass on the taper shaper. All of those intricate patterns exist on their own. All I did was reveal Someone Else’s work.

So here’s what you’ll find in this post, hereways on out:

Links to each of the sticks, Images showing off some seriously magical grain patterns for each stick, then a long 23 minute unedited video that is going to be used for some of the epic video I’m doing, since (what I mentioned at the beginning) I’ve decided to do my epic stick build documentary a different way: covering all five sticks, all the way through.

If the concept for the video turns out to be effective, I’ll probably do a similar video for each round of stick builds, while sharing some of the video on the blog as I go. We’ll see. Anyhow:

The five sticks are: Bruiser, Pale Horse, Sarah Phim, Dizzy Christmas, and Carrot Cake.

Pale Horse:

Dizzy Christmas:

Carrot Cake

And here we have Carrot Cake’s third pass on the taper shaper:
