Listing is for butt and joint protector.
Whether you collect cues or just wait for the one that speaks to you, Brother, Sister, listen!
Watering Time has a full hard maple core. I won’t josh you and say the core is the hit. Too many things go into the hit, most of them closer to where the hittin’s going on. But cores matter, and hard maple is the benchmark. This one has a full core, meaning, there’s no screw in the middle of the butt, just a solid 3/4″ to 5/8″ time-turned dowel in the middle. (I turn cores over time, like shafts and butts, to reduce probability of warping later.)
The outside is rare for Character Cues, spalted and stabilized mothy oak. If you’re new to Character Cues, I grab dead rotten trees from the woods, cut them open and when I find cool patterns, I dry the wood to zero percent humidity, stabilize it in Cactus Juice resin, and the resulting wood/material is nearly as dense as purple heart. That’s the secret to Character Cues. Shush don’t tell. The stabilized material is nearly impossible to warp without applying heat or moisture. Strong and dense and beautiful.
There’s a joke hanging low to pluck, but I’ll leave it.
Watering Time is red white and blue, with all the moth holes and white oak cracks filled with black epoxy. There’s a couple places in the black/white handle with magenta mica in the mothholes, as stories with a twist at the end are more satisfying.
Pay no mind to the CCCCC pattern on the handle. This a guaranteed ZERO COMMUNIST pool cue butt, though the people themselves are just sinners like me. (It’s always the gubmint working evil while the people try to survive.)
Notice the colors and the name.
Unless you favor a slow, careful break, don’t pair Watering Time with a break shaft. This is an everyday statement shooter for someone who likes a medium hit, a fairly wide handle, and a butt that draws eyes like flies to a stinkpile.
Sorry I slipped in some sales lingo. 🙂
Notice there’s a pic with another short tube of blue mothy oak. I’m making the joint protector out of that, and there’s enough to make a fancy matching shaft. Maybe grab Watering Time and add one of the last remaining Limited Edition BurcHowdies, and get a prototype to match Watering Time. Just a thought. (Here’s a tease. There’s a BurcHowdy review video on the way. The shaft is for real.)
I love every cue I build, but there’s only a handful that have that one thing. This one has that rare difference that invites the mind to muse.
Butt is available to buy from this page. Just add to cart and checkout. If you’d like to add a shaft, email me at clayton@charactercues.com and let me know what’s on your mind. I’ll password protect the page for you and add whatever you want to the listing.
